(Annews24) Kampala-There was drama at Buganda Road court on Friday when Makerere University research fellow, Dr.Stella Nyanzi declared that she is not interested in being granted bail as many had expected her to do.

Nyanzi who is accused of charges related to cyber harassment and offensive communication in regards to her Facebook post about President Museveni’s late mother Esteeri Kokundeka, surprised many when she said she would rather stay in prison than apply for bail.

After taking plea and denying the charges, Nyanzi was told that the offence was bailable but she said she was not interested in applying for bail.

“I am not interested in bail. What are they investigating, Facebook posts? I will go to Luzira and be there with those ladies, and teach them how to write on Facebook,”Nyanzi said

The motor-mouthed Nyanzi was last year indefinitely suspended by Makerere  University for attacking Janet Museveni who is the first lady and minister for Education and Sports.

On Friday, she asked court to summon President Museveni to explain how he was offended by his posts on Facebook.

“I can’t surely see how Museveni can be offended by mere writings by a woman on Facebook. I would like him to come to this court and prove the extent to which he is offended,” she said.

Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate, Gladys Kamasanyu further remanded Nyanzi to Luzira prison and adjourned the matter to November 22 when she will appear for further mention.

Nyanzi is charged with two counts of cyber harassment and offensive communication in which prosecution alleged that with an intention to disturb the peace of President Museveni, she posted obscene messages on her official face book page while attacking the privacy of the President and that of his late mother, Esteri Kokundeka.

Prosecution alleges that Nyanzi committed the offences on September 16 through a disguised birthday message she allegedly sent to the president.
