Last Tuesday the 2nd of January 2018 Francis Ekalungar the chief accountant case hospital Buganda road left his workplace at midday with hospital funds equaling to 15 million shillings. He was to deposit the money and return to work in a few hours or minutes time as he had always done. This time it was never to be. Not at all as Ekalungar did not return forcing the hospital to issue a missing person alert. But as Ekalungar left his workplace, two security operatives at the facility are reported to have been seen suspiciously talking to each other.Rest in peace.. watch this video
A search ensued for Ekalungar and when later a body burnt beyond recognition was discovered in Kajjansi assumptions started flying around that he had perhaps been cornered by robbers who might have burnt him alive and fled with the money. At the scene only the charred body was found. No trace of Ekalungar’s car a Toyota premio nor the money.
The body was picked and transferred to Mulago where an identification dispute ensued with Ekalungar’s workmates insisting that the burnt body was of their colleague as the family(wife and kids) refuted the claims. A DNA test was later conducted confirming the family’s worst fears. The burnt body was indeed that of their beloved Ekalungar. It was all tears and sorrow as case hospital handed the body to Kampala funeral directors the company that will handle Ekalungar’s burial. The two hospital security officers mentioned earlier as having been seen suspiciously talking to one another as Ekalungar drove out of his workpkace, have already been questioned by police.
No witnesses have so far come forward in connection with rhe arson and attack on Ekalungar but investigations have already kicked off. A requiem mass was held for the fallen accountant at Christ the king church yesterday and the burial is later today at his ancestral home in Busia. Life cannot be the same for his family.
No! It just cannot after the loss of a father, a lover, a breadwinner and respectable citizen of the society. Lost due to evil people living within us. We pray that the perpetrators are found and decisively dealt with. For the family may the good Lord comfort them in these most trying times. Rest in peace. Dear Ekalungar you will forever be missed by family friends workmates and the whole cricket fraternity and all whose lives you ever touched.
