Roses That Make You Bleed

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

Many have wondered how something as beautiful as God’s grace could be so painful. How can something as effervescent as the grace of God cause me to hurt so badly? Why God why me? The painful moments of life makes even the beloved like John start questioning, “Are you the one to come or shall we look for another?” And we start doubting the grace of God.

Grace is like a husband who wants to show his wife how much he loves her. So, he buys his wife a box of freshly cut roses in a box wrapped with a beautiful bow. He gives her the box and her eyes start beaming and her heart starts palpitating. She can’t wait to open the box. She can hardly untie the bow fast enough, she opens the box and she sees the beautiful roses. She smells the lovely fragrance from the roses. In her excitement she reaches in the box and grabs the roses and, unfortunately, she grabs them by the stem. Immediately, pain shoots up her arm, blood runs out her hand.

Something so beautiful yet so painful! Now she has a choice. She can throw the roses to the ground and say, “Rose I reject you because you caused me to hurt.” Moreover, she could be angry with her husband and say, “Joker if you really loved me you would have taken the time to shave the thorns off the stems.” But she does neither. Instead, she continues to hold the roses by the stem despite the pain, because she know that the intent of the giver was not to hurt her but to show her how much he loved her. My question for you today is can God hold you by the stem?

“To all who are reaching out to feel the guiding hand of God, the moment of greatest discouragement is the time when divine help is nearest. They will look back with thankfulness upon the darkest part of their way. “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly,” 2 Peter 2:9. From every temptation and every trial He will bring them forth with firmer faith and a richer experience.” ~ Desire Of Ages p.528

_’God is too wise to err, and too good to withhold any good thing from them that walk uprightly. Then do not fear to trust Him, even though you do not see the immediate answer to your prayers. Rely upon His sure promise, “Ask, and it shall be given you.” ‘- Steps to Christ Chapter 11_

Even when you cannot trace his hand trust His promise. His Word is sure and He cannot lie. That’s why the Bible says, “And we know that all things work together for good…”

So we find here that the good, bad and ugly things in our lives are like pieces of a puzzle in our lives. They work together to bring out a beautiful picture in the end even though they have different shape, size and colour pieces. Allow God to work it out for you. Keep trusting, keep believing and most of all keep moving. God shapes our characters through the storms of life. The thorns on the rose stem may make you bleed but the intention of the giver is not to hurt but please. Hold God by the stem. God is in charge!

PrayerFather thank You for Your guiding hand in all situations. We pray that you make keep us connected to You even in the midst of our trials. And help us to keep trusting in You in all situations. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
