BOBI WINE ON STRAIGHT TALK AFRICA / NBS TELEVISION
Wednesday, September 12, 2018 [2130-2230 HRS]
“A Discussion with Bobi Wine”
On the next Straight Talk Africa, Shaka Ssali hosts popular Ugandan Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as pop musician Bobi Wine. They will discuss the current political climate in Uganda – including Wine’s arrest, detention and alleged torture at the hands of Ugandan security officers following his arrest on August 14th. Ugandan authorities have steadfastly denied that Wine was tortured while in custody. A Ugandan judge granted Wine and 11 other opposition politicians bail over their alleged role in the stoning of President Yoweri Museveni’s motorcade. Authorities dropped an illegal weapons charge against him, however, Wine currently faces a treason charge that carries the death penalty.
An outspoken critic of the Museveni administration, Wine is currently in the United States undergoing medical care. He spoke out last Thursday against his treatment back home during an address at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The popular politician has captivated Uganda’s youth, many of whom say they feel excluded and alienated by the nation’s current political establishment.
